Located between Liverpool and Manchester, Warrington is a Cheshire town founded by the Romans at a strategic point on the River Mersey. Like many northern towns, Warrington grew in importance during the Industrial Revolution, when it was a focus for steel, textiles, brewing, tanning and other industries. Particularly noted for wire manufacture, it’s regenerated since the decline in industry and became the location for the UK’s first branch of IKEA in 1987.
